Alex is a Director of Grand Parade Investments Limited, a South African Company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

He is chairman of all the GPI and Sun International Slots Group of companies which includes the holding company, the management company, as well as the 6 slots routes owned by the company countrywide.

He is a director of Grandwest Casino and the Table Bay Hotel and is the chairman of Golden Valley Casino in Worcester.

He is a consultant to the law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr having practised as an attorney for 36 years.

He is the Deputy Chair of the Council of the College of Cape Town.

He is a qualified Commercial Mediator and a former Acting Judge of the Cape High Court.

He has numerous other business interests.


  • Appointed Chairman of the Appeal Board of the South African Football Association.
  • Appointed by the Minister of Sport as Chair of the Appeal Board of the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS).

Tim was Director of Indirect Procurement for Africa at the world’s largest brewing company, AB InBev, where he served for many years within the Global Procurement function. It is within this time, that his interest in farming and dealmaking within this space took shape.  He was involved in negotiating various contracts linked to the company’s Go Farming and Women in Maize initiatives, which sought to increase access to market for small and emerging farmers in South Africa.

He has a strong track record in the procurement and supply chain industry, having operated at the operational, strategic and executive management levels for more than 15 years.

He has worked for some of the leading blue chip companies in the world (both locally and internationally), with the likes of MWEB Commercezone (Naspers), Citigroup (London), Barclays Africa and AB InBev appearing on this esteemed list. 

Tim is now a full time entrepreneur. He is the founder of Enovate Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a company which seeks to invest in new and innovative solutions linked to the fourth industrial revolution.

He is also the founder of Urbz (Pty) Ltd, an urban farming company which seeks to promote and increase the amount of smart, sustainable agriculture taking place in cities through the use of hydroponics, which is good for both people and the planet. 

Tim holds a BA (Hons) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, where he majored in Law and International Relations. 

He successfully completed a Management Development Program (MDP) at the Gordon Institute of Business Science and holds an MCIPS designation from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, underpinning his commitment to the industry and the principles, morals and values that the designation commands from its alumni of professionals.

Tim also holds certificates in hydroponics and horticulture.

With a background in law and now an intrepid entrepeneur, Desmond has over years developed an eclectic set of expertise and experience in (i) below the line public awareness campaigns, (ii) consultancy services to the public sector and as (iii) a founder of espAFRIKA (Pty) Ltd, the major events company and owner of the Cape town International Jazz Festival, where he has developed extensive expertise in fundraising and marketing.

For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa he founded ACCESS, an event safety steward training company that trained 3000 stewards for the World Cup. The company trained more than 8000 stewards across five provinces for deployment at rugby and soccer stadiums.

Desmond was also part of the project management team which comprised of a team of lawyers, engineers, architects, social workers, and equity and debt financiers on the R2.2. billion Project Soekmekaar Solar Power Station in Limpopo.

He is a seasoned commercial deal facilitator and is involved in facilitating and negotiating deals between businesses in West Africa (Niger, Guinea Conakry and Congo-Brazzaville) and South Africa in order to exploit major opportunities in the West African Region. 

He has an illustrious background in political activism, community development and social development that stretch over the last thirty years.

His core contribution is his excellent national and international contacts and networks that he utilises to build lasting business relationships.
